Day 4 Reflection

The most interactive part about training yesterday was doing the Digital Storytelling. I felt as that participating in groups to work on this project gave everyone a chance to see how digital storytelling can be used in different subject areas. The only disadvantage about yesterday I would say is the failure to sign up on the usa.dotrust.org website for second year interns. I felt we were sort of at a disadvantage to being on the same page with everyone else in being able to view the different feaatures of the new website. Maybe, in the future all the kinks can be worked out before something like that is introduced to a group of trainees as a whole.

Day 3 Reflection

I enjoyed how we weighed the pros and cons of facebook and twitter. Although, I'm still not for it being used in the schools by students and teachers, it is a social networking site that can be swayed upon by administration to help learning in the classroom . If I had to choose a site to use, it would probably be twitter just because it works more as an online site just to post messages. For example, a classroom of students can be following the teacher as well as each other so therefore everyone will be linked together as a whole and casn control what's being said. Also, I liked how we were able to video how 30 second spot so new interns can have time to practice what they will say and see for themselves the best approach to take when introducing oneself to a faculty member at the school. The most important part about training yesterday was the open source websites we were able to research and discover because the majority of them have games for kids to play in the classroom to keep them occupied which can also serve as learning tools based on specific subject areas.

Day 2 Reflection

I really felt that the best part about using the DOT email was learning what Labels feature is best suitable for oneself. Also, the Calendar feature was very important because it shows how to organize not only appointments and meetings that you may have planned but it let's your ISM know when you will be at your school or have another things going on. In the afternoon, doing the project involving Windows MovieMaker with our groups created a challenge to get an assigment done by a deadline. I liked that I was able to learn the strengths and weaknesses of other people in the group as well as my own. I look forward to these next 3 days of learning a lot more involving technology and overcoming obstacles this year.

Day 1 Reflection

Today, I learned a lot more about other interns in the training. The exercise using Audacity really gave me ideas on how I can integrate technology at the school throughout the year. I would like to learn more about different websites where we as interns can use that won't be blocked by RSD. Audacity can be helped when doing presentations in the classroom.

About Me

Hi,  my name is Joshua Evans. I was born and raised in New Orleans. I am a Business Administration major at Southeastern University. I have two brothers and three sisters. My favorite sport to play is basketball and I'm a big New Orleans sports fan.

This year, I am in my second year with DOT. Last year, I was a TeachUP! intern but this year I will be switching roles to technical support. I expect to assist in the school in the best way possible. I want to be counted on to do whatever is needed to make a difference. I look forward to doing my job to the best of my ability so I can fulfuill my role in the program.
